Keep an eye on your kids

Posted by rivalblogger on January 9, 2011

If there is one thing in South Africa which frightens parents, it is that sinking feeling when your child disappears. Sometimes it is an innocent exploration of a garden or a few minutes missing in a shopping mall. However the reality is that there will be times when it is something worse.

This child locator may be the solution to your worries.

As far as the child is concerned nu•m8+ is a digital watch. For parents it has been designed with simplicity and ease of use in mind.

(More info here)

A Lok8u secure customer portal is also available on the internet and will be accessible worldwide from any PC. Each user will have a user name and password and will have the ability to request and display the child?s location as an icon on Google maps with street address and postal code. The nu•m8+ technology is accessible at home, abroad or on holiday from any computer or mobile phone.

Too locate the child, simply text “wru” from a mobile phone to the nu•m8+ or click “where r you” on the Lok8u secure portal. The child?s location is then presented as an icon on Google maps and/or the street address and postcode is displayed.

In addition, parents can set unique “safe zones“, in which their child can safely play. This function is activated simply by texting “safe”, followed by a number, which represents the metre radius for the child?s safe area, to nu•m8+, or selecting a „safe zone? from the Lok8u secure portal. As long as the child remains in this area no alerts will be sent and the parent can still communicate with the device using the “wru” function. However, if they stray a priority alert will be sent to the parent?s mobile phone and computer.

When nu•m8+ is forcibly removed from the child’s wrist an alert is sent immediately to a designated mobile phone and/or email address with the child’s location to give parents an early warning of potential danger.

nu•m8+ can only be removed from the wrist, without triggering an alarm, when de-activated by the authorised parent/guardian. A “home zone” can also be configured for easy and safe removal of the nu•m8+.

At R1849 they are not cheap but for the peace of mind they offer they have to at least be considered a decent investment. For more information or to order one please click HERE.

It may not be a cheap item but in reality, it’s the type of product that you could charge whatever you like. At the end of the day, how much money do you place on your childrens lives. What a sensational product. Half through the article I was thinking, wouldn’t a kidnapper just remove the watch. But then you answered it by saying an alert pops up when it is forcibly removed, brilliant.

I agree. But what happen if the kidnapper removed it? What’s the other option? Can it still help or not?

Whoa this is brilliant. It’s amazing what technology can do nowadays. These concepts use to be in movies only but it now has become our reality. Provided that this watch really is what it says it is, then I would feel a whole lot safer for my family. As a parent, their safety is my top priority. Heaven forbid something horrible might happen to them if left unsupervised. They should be making more products like these.
